Do you pick up at our hotel/condo?

Yes, as most of our business is from the hotels and condos we do offer pick up along the 7 mile beach road.

Do you pick up at the port?

We are the only provider with an office right across the street from the cruise terminals, so you are guaranteed to find us easily. Your reservation confirmation from us will give you walking directions to our office, and there is a photo of the building (Waterfront Centre) and a map on our web site. If your ship anchors at Spotts instead of George Town, our bus meets you at Spotts.

Do we have to worry about missing our ship?

We will not schedule you for a trip that will not work with your ship's schedule, and we have kept detailed records over the years so we know what time your ship's last tender will be.

What happens if our ship is late or doesn't stop in Grand Cayman due to the weather, etc.? Will we get a refund?

If your ship arrives too late for your tour with us, or is not able to stop at all, you will not be charged. However, in most cases, we will have been made aware in advance that your ship will be arriving late, and we will do our best to make adjustments to the timing so that you can still take your tour with us. Please check in at our office in the Waterfront Centre as soon as you are able to get off the ship to see what we have been able to arrange for you. If you have booked through a tour agency and have paid them in advance, you will need to deal with them directly to receive a refund.

What is your cancellation policy?

If your cruise ship cannot stop here on its scheduled day, or arrives too late for you to take our tour, you will not be charged. If you need to cancel your reservation for personal reasons, please do so at least 72 hours in advance to avoid being charged. If your ship arrives on time and you do not show up for your tour, you will be charged. If the weather is such that our captain cancels our boat trip, you will not be charged, but we do not cancel for rain only.

Do you have group rates?

Yes, we offer a 10% discount for groups with ten adults or more.

Do you provide snorkel gear?

Yes, we provide snorkel gear (mask, snorkel, fins and snorkel vest or life jacket) for everyone ages 3 and up, included in the price of your tour.

Are there age restrictions?

We have no age restrictions on our tours. We ask that if you are bringing along children under the age of 3, you bring flotation devices for them as we do not provide them for children under age 3.

Do I need to know how to swim?

It is recommended that you know how to swim if you intend to do any snorkeling. We have a lifebuoy that you may use to hang on to during the snorkel stops so you can see the fish and coral if you are not comfortable swimming.

Can we have a private boat?

Yes, we would be happy to make your tour a private charter. Please see the rate sheet under 'Private Charters' on our web site.

Do you pay when you book or when you arrive?

If you book online, you will be charged upon completion of your reservation. If you book by phone or in person, you will be charged when you check in with us on the day of your tour. However, we will need a credit card to hold your reservation either way.

75 years How it started, and where it went 1 1951 Capt. Marvin Ebanks, home from the Merchant Marine, takes visitors out in a borrowed sailboat from a dock in West Bay to see the stingrays. 2 The water glass Before masks and snorkels, locals looked into the North Sound through five sided wooden boxes with a glass bottom. 3 Lunch at Rum Point All day trips, 9am to 5pm: conch, fish steamed Cayman style over a wood fire, and Ms. Anna's potato salad on the beach. 4 The 1980s Divers get into the water at the shallow sandbar. The trip becomes what it is today: meeting the stingrays in their own habitat. 5 2000 The second generation takes over: Capt. Story

Our company was established in Grand Cayman in 1951 by Capt. Marvin Ebanks, who is the 'granddaddy' and founder of snorkel trips to the Stingray City sandbar. Capt. Marvin remembers as a boy fishing with his father and stopping by a shallow area in the North Sound to clean their catch. They and the other fishermen noticed that stingrays would congregate and eat the fish scraps that were being thrown into the water. Some years later, when Capt. Marvin returned to the island after serving in the Merchant Marine, he decided that tourists to the island might like to see the stingrays from a boat, so in 1951 he began with a borrowed sailboat, taking people out from a dock in West Bay to see the stingrays. In those days masks and snorkels hadn't yet been invented for widespread commercial use, but the locals used five-sided wooden boxes (called 'water glasses'), with the fifth side being glass, to look into the water to find conch and see the fish and coral. Once masks and snorkels were in common use, Capt. Marvin took people out to the clear, warm waters of the North Sound to snorkel, pick up some conch, see the stingrays (still from the boat), and his crew would use spearguns to catch fish and lobster. The lunch break was on the beach near Rum Point, and the fresh catch was cleaned and steamed Cayman-style over a wood fire. The conch, meanwhile, was cleaned and marinated with Capt. Marvin's special marinade and served on soda crackers as an appetizer while the fish was steaming. Ms. Anna, Capt. Marvin's wife, would have cooked a big pot of rice and peeled and cooked potatoes in the morning for their famous potato salad as well, to bring along on the boat and serve with the fish lunch. The trip used to last all day, from about 9 AM until about 5 PM, and those trips are what the old-timers remember that started all the interest in the stingrays, snorkeling and coral in the North Sound. Today the area is world-famous and several generations of stingrays later, they are still living in the wild and coming up to people for their snacks. Some time in the 1980s some divers decided to get into the water with the stingrays at the shallow sandbar, and from there the trip has evolved to what it is now: interacting with the stingrays in their natural habitat. September 2011 marked Capt. Marvin's 95th birthday, and the 60th year of operation for us. Since September 2000 we have moved to the second generation of ownership with his son and his nephew. Capt. Marvin's continues to provide the experience of a lifetime to its guests, with consistently excellent service, and first-class boats, fishing gear and snorkeling equipment. However, in most cases, we will have been made aware in advance that your ship will be arriving late, and we will do our best to make adjustments to the timing so that you can still take your tour with us. Please check in at our office in the Waterfront Centre as soon as you are able to get off the ship to see what we have been able to arrange for you. If you have booked through a tour agency and have paid them in advance, you will need to deal with them directly to receive a refund.

How far is the pier from your location?

Our private dock is about a 4-minute drive from our main location on Seven Mile Beach, and it's about a 15-minute drive from our location across from the cruise ship terminals.

How long is the tour?

We have two-stop (2.5 to 2.75 hours), three-stop (3 hours) and beach lunch (5 hours) tours. These times are dock-to-dock; add 15-20 minutes for transportation each way.

Can we get dropped off at the beach after our trip?

We would be happy to drop you off at Seven Mile Beach after your tour with us. There are always local buses and taxis waiting at Bonny Moon, Jack's and Royal Palms beach clubs, some of the more popular spots on the beach, with restaurant/bar/restroom facilities. The buses from the beach back to the cruise piers cost about US$5-7/person. Public buses also run on the main road, a 1 to 3 block walk from the beach, for US$2.50/person. Prices are subject to change.

Yes, we would be happy to make your tour a private charter. Please see the rate sheet under 'Private Charters' on our web site.

What is the maximum number of people allowed on your tours?

We have several boats ranging from 34-60 feet in length, with capacities from 20-45 people. The average number of people on a tour is 25.

Do you have group rates?

Yes, we offer a 10% discount for groups with ten adults or more.

Do you offer fishing trips that you can pay per person rather than chartering the boat?

No, we do not offer shared fishing charters.

How early can we make a reservation?

You may make your reservation at any time now for a future date; during the busy season (November to May) we urge you to make your reservation at least two weeks in advance as trips tend to fill up.

Do you pick up at our hotel/condo?

Yes, as most of our business is from the hotels and condos we do offer pick up along the 7 mile beach road. On private charters, pickup is $10 per person, round trip, with a $50 minimum.

What guests ask before they get in the water

How deep is the water?

The water at the Stingray City sandbar is 3-4 feet deep. We anchor the boat nearby in about 5-6 feet of water so we don't run it aground, and you then make your way over to the shallower area where you will stand in the sand while the stingrays swim around you. The snorkel stops are in 8-10 feet of water.

Is there a better time of day to see the stingrays?

The stingrays are hungry morning, noon and night. The ones who have eaten in the morning will go off to their afternoon hangout, and others will take their place throughout the day.

How long is the tour?

We have two-stop (2.5 to 2.75 hours), three-stop (3 hours) and beach lunch (5 hours) tours. These times are dock-to-dock; add 15-20 minutes for transportation each way.

How much time do we get to spend at each stop on the Stingray City and snorkel tour?

The Stingray, Starfish and Snorkeling tour is approximately 40 min per stop giving you a bit more time per stop.

Can we stay on the boat?

Yes, you may stay on the boat at any of the stops.

Do you offer life jackets for kids?

We provide snorkel vests and life jackets for everyone ages 3 and over. If you are bringing children under age 3 with you, please bring a flotation device for them.

Do I need to know how to swim?

It is recommended that you know how to swim if you intend to do any snorkeling. We have a lifebuoy that you may use to hang on to during the snorkel stops so you can see the fish and coral if you are not comfortable swimming.

Do you have any recommendations for a family with limited snorkeling experience?

We strongly recommend that you know how to swim before taking a snorkeling trip, but our crew are experienced at teaching beginners how to snorkel. Just ask them when you get to the boat.

Are there changing rooms at Stingray City?

We recommend that you wear your swimsuit under a cover-up or shorts/t-shirt as the only place to change clothes at Stingray City is in the head on the boat.

Yes, on most of our tours we are able to accommodate a person in a wheelchair provided it is collapsible.

Are pregnant women able to take the tour?

Yes, however, pregnant women are not allowed to do any of the dolphin tours.

Can we get dropped off at the beach after our trip?

We would be happy to drop you off at Seven Mile Beach after your tour with us. There are always local buses and taxis waiting at Bonny Moon, Jack's and Royal Palms beach clubs, some of the more popular spots on the beach, with restaurant/bar/restroom facilities. The buses from the beach back to the cruise piers cost about US$5-7/person. Public buses also run on the main road, a 1 to 3 block walk from the beach, for US$2.50/person. Prices are subject to change.

Do you offer SCUBA diving?

No, we do not do any SCUBA diving but we recommend DiveTech locally (www.divetech.com).

Are your tours suitable for seniors?

Many seniors enjoy our excursions. However, participation depends on individual mobility, health considerations, and the requirements of each tour.

Are restrooms available onboard?

Yes, restrooms are available on all of our boats.

Are food and drinks included?

Water and fruit punch are provided on all of our tours; food is only provided on our Beach Lunch, Stingray City & Snorkel tour.

What happens if I get seasick?

If you are prone to motion sickness, consider speaking with a pharmacist or healthcare professional about suitable preventative options before your excursion. We also recommend doing a private charter where it is only your group, and you have control of your stops and time, and you get to decide if you would like to cut the time shorter.

Is parking available at your location?

Yes, we have limited parking available at our dock and office in The Cayman Falls Plaza.

What should I bring on my excursion?

We recommend bringing swimwear, a towel, reef-safe sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat.

Can we bring our own food and drinks?

Yes, you are allowed to bring food and drinks. When on a public tour, we only allow a small quantity of food and drinks. No glass bottles. Alcoholic beverages are allowed; however, we highly recommend that you wait until you are done with your water activities to consume alcohol.

Our two-stop Stingray City and snorkel tour lasts about two hours and 30 minutes, slightly shorter than our three-stop Stingray City and snorkel tour. The two-stop trip goes to the Stingray City sandbar plus one snorkel stop, either the Barrier Reef or the Coral Gardens. Our captain will decide when he gets out to the Stingray City and snorkel areas which snorkel stop to use, based on wind, wave, and tide conditions, as well as on the number of people at each of the two areas. Capt. Marvin's Beach Lunch, Stingray City and Snorkel Tour is the best of the best! It includes two snorkel stops (one of which will be a conch dive during conch season, Nov. 1st through April 30th), the Stingray City sandbar for interaction with the stingrays, and a fresh seafood lunch on the beach across the North Sound (near Kaibo/Rumpoint).

Capt. Marvin's Watersports is privileged to have excellent, experienced captains who will help you catch that big marlin, tuna, or wahoo. One of the great advantages of deep sea fishing in Grand Cayman is that our deep water is not far from shore, so you do not have to spend hours of your time just getting to the fishing areas.

We offer both half-day and full-day fishing charters. Our half-day charters are from 8:00 AM until 12:00 PM, and again from 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM, and our full-day charters are from 8:00 AM until 3:00 PM. Upon request, we will also provide a cooler with ice for your beverages and snacks if you would like to bring them along with you.

Reef fishing charters are most often scheduled as half-day charters (8:00 AM until 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM) but if you like we can extend it to a full day for you. The price list and photos of our fleet are available on our website.

 

We are happy to provide a cooler with ice for your beverages and snacks if you would like to bring them along with you. We highly recommend that you wear sunscreen and bring it along for frequent application; and a hat with plenty of shade protection.

We took a Stingray Sandbar cruise on a day where there were no cruise ships in port. We were about 15 passengers on a boat which could accomodate 50. The staff were incredible and encouraged my fiancé and her sister to hop in the water even though they were very hesitant. Since we had 45 min at the sandbar, they finally were able to be comfortable enough to get in the water and the staff guided them to interact with the stingrays. Hats off to Romel who took awesome pictures of us at a very reasonnable cost for the downloads. On the way back, we even stopped so we could watch the crew throw fish at a wild sea turtle. I would highly recommend this tour as it does stay longer at the sandbar than the standard 3-stop tours which combine it with starfish and coral reefs.

We took the number 5 tour (Stingray City, Coral Gardens and Starfish point. The captain and crew were awesome, friendly, caring, and supportive. They ensured everyone was prepared and safe. We learned a lot about the marine life of the starfish and eastern Atlantic stingrays and starfish. The snorkeling at Coral Gardens was excellent. This tour is amazing and you don’t want to miss a tour with them. Also the staff inside Captain Marvin’s were helpful and friendly. We did Tour #4 as a family with a 2.5 year old. Seeing the Stingrays was a highlight of our holiday, they ensured our daughter was fully involved which she loved. Great snorkel operator in Bonaire. Smaller group than other tours (around 12 on our tour). Great condition of coral. Easy water entry from boat. Recommended to us by our son who has been out with them and we will be back. Note that snorkel locations are not the normal ones other operators use so you may have waves when outside Kline Bonaire. This is a drift tour with a safety person in with each group and boat nearby.Tour meets at office across the street from the Royal Watler tender dock. Bus picks you up as scheduled from there. We had a great experience doing the 3 hour stingray/ starfish/ snorkel tour. Our tour guides were Mitchell, Romel, and Jonathan. They were wonderful and the experience was 5 stars thanks to them. The waters were a little choppy. But, they helped everyone with the stingrays and made sure we had great pictures that we will treasure forever. Our family had a great time snorkeling, meeting the stingrays, and seeing the starfish. Did a tour with Captain Marvin’s team today and we had a blast. Very friendly staff: Delroy drove our boat seamlessly through the water, Prince was incredibly knowledgeable and told us everything we needed to know, while Jonathan kept the vibes right and captured everyone’s pictures. The boat was very clean and I love that they play reggae and soca throughout the whole trip. As a Jamaican-Canadian visiting the island, that was a really nice touch. We paid US $75 each for this fabulous experience with a fantastic Crew . They were very professional and excellent throughout. All crew went in the water with us at Sting ray city , ( the first stop), and at least one remained on the boat for the other two snorkel trip for safety. We were recommend Captain Marvin through a friend who lives locally in the Cayman’s and chose it as the Original founder ‘Captain MARVIN’ was the first person to look after the Stingray population there and help their survival. We had ample time at each location a d actually the trip was just over 3.5 hours. The Barrier Reef was our last stop and we encountered a baby black toothed shark. We encountered the best variety of fish at ‘The Coral Gardens’ and highly recommend this option as few other operators offer this location. We also booked the bioluminescence trip via their sister company’SweetSpot’ which we met at Kaibo dock (and also included a stop at Starfish point which we didnt know about) at sunset and all but the captain were the same crew. Booking both together for a 10% discount.

This trip was a blast. Sugar Bear was very personable and was funny. The stingray experience was truly a one of a kind experience. Snorkeled with them for my first snorkeling experience ever and I did great! Was worried about climbing back in the boat, but the ladder extends well into the water. It was totally manageable. I recently went on this excursion led by Mitchell, Barry, and Victoria and had a great time! They were the perfect team, especially since I was a little apprehensive about swimming with the stingrays at first. We hosted our summer staff social aboard "Ms. Anna" the boat was in excellent condition - had a bluetooth speaker that was perfect for us and they even provided us with extra coolers, ice, drinking water, and a table to serve our food. It felt very luxurious and was certainly the perfect party boat!Our crew was Mitch who diligently captained the vessel, Prince who was great at assisting Mitch, and Barrie who took great care of my colleagues ensuring they had a good time and were staying hydrated in the heat! I recently had the pleasure of experiencing the Stingray Experience with Captain Marvin's in the Cayman Islands, and I can honestly say it was the top highlight of my trip. The entire experience was professional, informative, safe, welcoming, and so much fun from beginning to end. I don't know how to swim, so I was personally nervous about getting into the water. However, the team did an incredible job making everyone feel comfortable and supported. The stingray experience itself was absolutely incredible and something I will never forget. Being so close to these beautiful creatures and learning about them and their environment was truly special. But what really inspired me to write this review, and I don't typically write reviews, was the genuine kindness and patience shown by one of the crew members. After the first snorkeling stop, which I didn't get into the water, I had promised my friend that I would maybe snorkeling at the last stop. I had never snorkeled before and, truthfully, wasn't very excited about it. One of the crew members, Joel, Johnathon, and another gentleman whose name I unfortunately can't remember, went above and beyond to make sure I felt comfortable. One of the sailors personally guided me into and in the water, and gave me the confidence to experience something I probably would have otherwise avoided. That level of patience, encouragement, and genuine care really stood out to me. Those are the moments that turn a great excursion into a truly memorable experience. I was so impressed that later, while my travel buddy and I were hanging out in the ocean at our hotel, we told two Canadian women we had met about our experience. They were so excited by what we shared that they actually booked the same tour for the following day! 10 out of 10, without hesitation. And I do not play around with my reviews! The entire crew deserves recognition for providing such a wonderful experience, but especially the gentlemen who took the extra time to make sure I felt safe, included, and confident. We booked two tours with Captain Marvin. First was the bioluminescence tour. As we were staying on the East End, it was more convenient to get picked up a Kaibo dock instead of 7-mile beach area. They first took us to starfish point just before dusk and we learned about starfish and jelly fish. Next, we went into bio bay. They provided protective suits as well as masks, fins and snorkels. Once it got completely dark, we went into the water. It was an amazing experience. In spite of the moon being almost half, it was dark enough to see incredible luminescence, especially under or next to the boat. The staff were great and I highly recommend the experience. We were back at Kaibo around 9PM. The second tour was the Stingray City and two snorkel stops. This one left from the west side office in the 7-mile beach area. We booked the 10AM tour instead of the early morning due to the long drive in from the East End. They took us in a bus to the dock where we boarded the boat and received instructions from the staff. Snorkel gear, water and fruit juice were provided. It took about 30 minutes to reach the first snorkel spot which was very good. Clear water and lots of coral and fish. We saw a few stingrays and some barracudas, too. Next stop was Stingray City, a sandbar in the middle of the bay. The water was crystal blue and the stingrays were everywhere, swimming around your legs or rubbing against you. The staff held some rays for people to touch and even kiss (7 years good luck). We fed the rays squid and they were aggressively friendly. There was a photographer taking shots that you could buy. It was $60US for 20 pictures, but we got all 47 for that price. Next stop was a snorkel stop at the reef. Different kinds of fish and coral and also very nice. We arrived back at the dock around 1PM. Price for the stingray city plus 2 snorkel stops was only about $10 more than just the stingray city tour, so definitely worth the extra. The office is co-located in a convenience store. Good idea to get some snacks and drinks before the tour as we were pretty hungry on the way back. Some guests packed lunches. We opted to hit the little cafe in the same center for a nice lunch. The staff were great - friendly, helpful and informative. The boat was good with a nice upper deck and sunbathing area on the bow. There is a marine toilet in the lower cabin. Life vests were available to snorkelers who wished them.

This was hands down the best snorkel tour I have been on. The crew was fantastic! They showed us an amazing experience with the sting rays and showed us where the resident sea turtle lives. The turtle showed up and I got to pet him when I was snorkeling, never did I expect that at all. Well worth the money!

Getting hugged by a Stingray and kissing and hand feeding them was an incredible once in a lifetime experience. We also loved finding so many Starfish in one area that we could pick up and hold. A wonderful adventure for our family!!We came to Grand Cayman in August 2026 with our 8 and 11 year old kids for their first open-water snorkeling adventure and the visit to Stingray City was a big hit. The stingrays were curious and gentle giants. The kids loved being able to touch stingrays that weren't in an aquarium petting tank, and the calm, shallow, crystal-clear water made for a very stress-free swimming/snorkeling experience that our kids will remember for a very long time.The online booking process was very easy, and from start to finish, the Captain Marvin's staff and boat crew were friendly, knowledgeable, professional, and dedicated to our safety and enjoyment. The boat was clean and comfortable.
