About

To provide the experience of a lifetime to its guests, with consistently excellent service, and first-class boats, fishing gear and snorkeling equipment. Our most valuable asset is our first-rate staff and crew who take pleasure in giving our guests the best possible experience while they are on our island.

Mission

Our company was established in Grand Cayman in 1951 by Capt. Marvin Ebanks, who is the 'granddaddy' and founder of snorkel trips to the Stingray City sandbar. Capt. Marvin remembers as a boy fishing with his father and stopping by a shallow area in the North Sound to clean their catch. They and the other fishermen noticed that stingrays would congregate and eat the fish scraps that were being thrown into the water. Some years later, when Capt. Marvin returned to the island after serving in the Merchant Marine, he decided that tourists to the island might like to see the stingrays from a boat, so in 1951 he began with a borrowed sailboat, taking people out from a dock in West Bay to see the stingrays. In those days masks and snorkels hadn't yet been invented for widespread commercial use, but the locals used five-sided wooden boxes (called 'water glasses'), with the fifth side being glass, to look into the water to find conch and see the fish and coral. Once masks and snorkels were in common use, Capt. Marvin took people out to the clear, warm waters of the North Sound to snorkel, pick up some conch, see the stingrays (still from the boat), and his crew would use spearguns to catch fish and lobster. The lunch break was on the beach near Rum Point, and the fresh catch was cleaned and steamed Cayman-style over a wood fire. The conch, meanwhile, was cleaned and marinated with Capt. Marvin's special marinade and served on soda crackers as an appetizer while the fish was steaming. Ms. Anna, Capt. Marvin's wife, would have cooked a big pot of rice and peeled and cooked potatoes in the morning for their famous potato salad as well, to bring along on the boat and serve with the fish lunch. The trip used to last all day, from about 9 AM until about 5 PM, and those trips are what the old-timers remember that started all the interest in the stingrays, snorkeling and coral in the North Sound. Today the area is world-famous and several generations of stingrays later, they are still living in the wild and coming up to people for their snacks. Some time in the 1980s some divers decided to get into the water with the stingrays at the shallow sandbar, and from there the trip has evolved to what it is now: interacting with the stingrays in their natural habitat. September 2011 marked Capt. Marvin's 95th birthday, and the 60th year of operation for us. Since September 2000 we have moved to the second generation of ownership with his son and his nephew. Capt. Marvin's continues to provide the experience of a lifetime to its guests, with consistently excellent service, and first-class boats, fishing gear and snorkeling equipment. Our most valuable asset is our first-rate staff and crew who take pleasure in giving our guests the best possible experience while they are on our island. Come on aboard!

Tours & Activities

Tour #1: Stingrays and Starfish ( Caves on Fridays & Saturdays only)

Enjoy the combo tour with stingrays and starfish, offered for USD65/person each morning at 7:45 before the crowds! On Fridays and Saturdays, you can add the caves tour and embark on an exhilarating 1.5 hours guided tour (USD110/person for both). This tour has a minimum of 10 people.

Included

Tour #2: Stingrays and one snorkel stop to Barrier Reef OR Coral Gardens

Our two-stop stingray/snorkel tour lasts about two hours and 30 minutes, slightly shorter than our three-stop stingray/snorkel tour. The two-stop trip goes to the Stingray City sandbar plus one snorkel stop, either the Barrier Reef or the Coral Gardens. Our captain will decide when he gets out to the stingray/snorkel areas which snorkel stop to use, based on wind, wave, and tide conditions, as well as on the number of people at each of the two areas. We always try to go to the less populated of the two stops.

Sales Pitch

It is also strongly recommended that you know how to swim in order to be safe for the snorkeling stop. Our two-stop trip is specifically geared toward the cruise passenger whose ship is not in port long enough to take our three-stop or beach lunch tour, but stayover visitors are also welcome to take this tour. It is available Monday through Friday on days when cruise ships are in port.

There is a seasonal time variation in the trips because of Daylight Time in the United States so during Daylight Time our 8:30 AM and 11:15 AM trips work with many ships' schedules, and during Standard Time our 11:15 AM and 1:45 PM trips work with those same schedules. If you have questions about your ship's schedule or which time zone it uses, please send us an email. The cruise line offices do not always know which time zone a particular ship will use here.

Tour #3: Beach Lunch, Stingray & Snorkel tour

Capt. Marvin's Beach Lunch Stingray/Snorkel Tour is the best of the best! It includes two snorkel stops (one of which will be a conch dive during conch season, Nov. 1st through April 30th), the Stingray City sandbar for interaction with the stingrays, and a fresh seafood lunch on the beach across the North Sound (near Kaibo/Rumpoint). Our crew will dive for conch in season and you are welcome to help them. They will even clean up some shells so each family unit who wishes can take one back home with them (supply limited). The rest of the year, you will have extra snorkeling (or Starfish) stop instead of the conch dive.

The duration of our beach lunch stingray/snorkel tour is from 9:30 AM until 2:30 PM. It is not offered on Sundays, and we have a 10-person minimum for this trip to go out. Please email us or phone our office to see which days the trip is scheduled during your vacation in Grand Cayman.

This is the trip that made the North Sound stingrays famous! Our beach lunch includes fresh fish, cooked Cayman-style, barbecued chicken for those who don't wish to have fish, potato salad or pasta salad, tossed salad with a choice of dressings, rice, and coconut bread, and of course, during conch season, that wonderfully marinated conch, fixed fresh by our crew! You may purchase beverages at the Kaibo Bar.

Our Fishing Boats

We are fortunate to have a fleet of cabin cruisers for fishing charters. The boats vary in length from 33 feet to 60 feet.

Deep Sea Fishing

Capt. Marvin's Watersports is privileged to have excellent, experienced captains who will help you catch that big marlin, tuna, or wahoo. One of the great advantages of deep sea fishing in Grand Cayman is that our deep water is not far from shore, so you do not have to spend hours of your time just getting to the fishing areas. We offer both half-day and full-day fishing charters. Our half-day charters are from 8:00 AM until 12:00 PM, and again from 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM, and our full-day charters are from 8:00 AM until 3:00 PM. Upon request, we will also provide a cooler with ice for your beverages and snacks if you would like to bring them along with you.

Sales Pitch

The price of deep sea fishing trips includes gear, bait, captain, and mate, plus ice water and fruit punch on board the boat. We can provide a cooler with ice if you would like to bring beverages or snacks along with you. The price of reef fishing trips includes gear, bait, and captain for 5 people fishing or fewer (Oh Boy up to 8 people fishing). Riders are $50/person extra.

Description of boats:

Sea Time: 38-foot Tiara

Magic Hook: 34-foot Crusader

Oh Boy: 60-foot custom yacht (air-conditioned cabin)

The tradition in Grand Cayman is that 1/3 of the catch (or an edible amount, whichever is smaller) goes to those fishing, and 2/3 of the catch goes to the boat.

Let us know whether you would like a half-day or a full-day deep-sea fishing charter, and we will prepare a contract for you to include all the details of your fishing charter.

We would love to guarantee that you will catch fish.

Reef Fishing

We also provide reef fishing charters, and because the reef is so close to the island, you are not spending your valuable time and money getting to a far-off fishing site. The tradition in Grand Cayman is that 1/3 of the catch (or an edible amount, whichever is smaller) goes to those fishing, and 2/3 of the catch goes to the boat. Our crew will be happy to fillet the fish for you.

Sales Pitch

Reef fishing charters are most often scheduled as half-day charters (8:00 AM until 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM) but if you like we can extend it to a full day for you. The price list and photos of our fleet are available on our website.

We are happy to provide a cooler with ice for your beverages and snacks if you would like to bring them along with you. We highly recommend that you wear sunscreen and bring it along for frequent application; and a hat with plenty of shade protection.

We would love to guarantee that you will catch fish. Let us know if you have any questions about fishing here in Grand Cayman and we will be happy to answer them for you.

Incredibly easy way to see a number of highlights from our trip to Grand Cayman. We not only saw stingrays up close and kissing them for good luck, but also got to see a sea turtle during our snorkeling expedition. Incredibly nice guides walked us through all the basics making it very fun and safe.

Outstanding!! We went with Captain Marvin’s watersports and it was awesome! The crew, Richard, Jessie and Romero were very knowledgeable and professional! Jessie was great with kids and Richard even let our 6 and 12 year old “steer” the boat. Romero was quick with the camera and got so many amazing pics if my family at stingray city…It’s my dream as a mom that not be the only one taking photos and I’m so happy with the many images he got. Core memories made!

Richard and Jesse were amazing, they explained each step of our trip, how to interact with the stingrays, the reef, turtles & starfish without endangering them and ourselves. Best guides for seeing the turtles on our trip, which I had been waiting to see the turtles in their own environment since I have been here. They were environmentally conscious about everything we interacted with on our adventure, which all tours should be. 5 stars is not enough, this is an amazing crew for any Adventure in the Cayman's, I will be recommending them to everyone I know and meet while I am here for the next few years!Hats off to Richard & Jesse the best in the Cayman's!👌👍

Romain really made the day for us - he was knowledgeable, so easy to chat with, and was happy to modify the tour to skip some stops, add others- even an odd request by me, the grocery store! Fantastic experience. There are a lot of people out at the stingray city sand bar but the Captain Marvin crew kept us contained and safe and made sure all of us had a lot of time with the stingrays. The boat is lovely, Anna Maria, and very comfortable for the 35 of us onboard. It never felt crowded. I saw other smaller more crowded boats and was glad I was with Captain Marvin. We went to a nearby snorkel spot. It is a patch reef with varied fish and coral. Nothing spectacular but an easy swim and I enjoyed it. Saw a lot of different kinds of fish. I bought the pictures they took which were very good and quite reasonably priced. We came off a cruise ship and the office was very easy to find. They dropped us off right back at the pier entrance. Would definitely sail with them again.

If you're staying at the Westin, this is a great tour company to book with because you can walk to the meeting point across the street. The crew was very nice and organized. The boat ride was smooth. They supplied snorkel gear, water, and fruit punch. You need to bring your towels and sunscreen. The first stop was the coral garden, which was great snorkeling. The second stop was Stingray City. They gave us squid and instructions on how to feed the stingrays. They had a photographer that took everyone's pictures with the stingrays that were available for purchase. The third stop was Starfish Point where we relaxed and looked at the starfish. I like how they provided instructions on how to handle the starfish properly. 100% recommend.

We recently had an incredible time with Captain Marvin’s Water Sports in Grand Cayman and cannot recommend them highly enough. From the moment our trip began, everything was perfectly managed.A huge shout-out to Ian, our shuttle driver, who was fantastic. He was right on time for our pickup and made the logistics of getting to the boat absolutely seamless. It was a stress-free, professional start to the day.Once we boarded, the experience only got better. The boat was clean, well-maintained, and very nice. A special thanks to J.J., Oscar, and Fred, who were all outstanding. They were incredibly professional, attentive, and clearly experts at what they do.They took us out to Stingray City, which was an absolute highlight. They really went the extra mile to make sure we saw the stingrays and had a great time. We also stopped at the coral reefs, where we were lucky enough to spot some sea turtles! The snorkeling was excellent throughout the trip, and it was great that they provided all the necessary equipment. To top all of this Fred took incredible pictures. If you are looking for a reliable, professional excursion look no further than Captain Marvin’s. It was a seamless, fantastic experience from pickup to drop-off. We will definitely be back!

We have used CM twice now and we are very happy with the service. Friendly staff, steady boats, water, juice, snorkel kit and life jackets all provided. We have used the Bear and Anna on our two different private hires for groups of 25/33 and there was plenty of space. Anna has more sun cover but Bear is totally fine as well. They were accomodating to our time demands which were outside of the usual window. Bathroom on board.I'd say my one other comment this time was that this time on Anna we needed more juice and water as well ran out. So take a bottle with you!

From the time we were picked up at our condo to the time we were dropped back off at our condo we had a first rate experience. The captain and crew were very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. As a very senior citizen I appreciated being helped onto the boat after each stop.

Our stingray city and two snorkel experience with Captain Marvin was the highlight of our week! The two spots that we snorkeled were amazing!!!!! So many fish and coral from the moment we got off the boat. Then great pics with the stingrays. My family was comfortable just with our fins and mask and snorkel, but they had noodles and lifejackets available, or offered to join those that might want more support in the water. I appreciated that they had a hose to rinse off the saltwater as we got back in after our last snorkel. We booked with Captain Marvin, which was great because I accidentally booked the wrong day and they were able to fix it for me when I called. I also appreciated the pick up and drop off at our condo. Every person we interacted with from the office to the shuttle and the boat crew was friendly and knowledgeable. I could not recommend them more.

Great experience at a reasonable price. The captain and first mate were very inviting, friendly and helpful. They made the experience that much more enjoyable. I believe their names were Rommy and Marcus. This was a definite must see when in the Cayman Islands

Captain Marvin’s is a top-notch company that leads tours to Stingray City. From the time our driver picked us up at our condo to the time he returned us to our condo our experience was delightful. The captain and crew were knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. They put on quite a show at Stingray City feeding the stingrays and helping us handle them. The two snorkeling sites were pleasant with lots of live coral and several species of fish.

Astor was the captain, and he crew of Jimmy, JJ, and Jonathan made this an amazing tour. The first reef we were one was cool. Second stop stingray city, they took the time to teach us about the rays and to let us experience the rays when they were all around us...it was awesome. The last reef were were on was the best one. Some live coral with great fish to see and swim with. We were able to see a turtle! The weather was not the greatest, and it was still one of our best days.

We had so m in fun! Mitchell and Jesse were the best captain and first mate and Rodel was a great photographer. Mitchell was so funny and personal and Jesse saw us struggling to catch a stingray to hold and down to get one for us. Keep in mind that the stingrays will come especially when you feed them, so that’s when you’ll want to take pics! We do this tour every time we visit the island and would love if Mitchell and Jesse were our captains again. Thank you!

What a great tour! Captain Richard, Mitch, and Romel were excellent hosts. They took us to Stingray City, Barrier Reef, and the Coral Gardens. At Stingray City we got to feed squid to the stingrays, and Mitch gave us a very informative talk on them. We snorkeled at the other two locations and saw some amazing fish. Everyone in the crew was very friendly and helpful. It was a great time! Oh, and Romel takes great pictures!

We had the best day on the Cayman Jewel with Captain Astor, Jamie, Jj, and Fred. The tour was well organized and ran smoothly. The captain and crew were professional and caring, checking that everyone was safe in the water the entire time we snorkeled. The stingray experience was unforgettable and the reefs were full of fish, stingray and even a couple of turtles. We made great memories. Fred’s photos were wonderful and I am so happy to have them. Joe, Johnathan & Mitch were awesome. Very friendly, accommodating & knowledgable and a huge asset to the tour. Starfish portion of tour was okay, don’t expect to see a lot of starfish. The stingray portion was the BEST! The guys helping with that did a fabulous job keeping the stingrays engaged and getting pictures. Spend the money & buy the pictures, great souvenir. Crystal Cave was cool, but if you have already seen caves (such as Ruby Falls), you may not appreciate it as much.

From the moment I boarded North Sounder, I knew this would be a great trip with Michael and JJ. They were both so very personable, welcoming, and helpful. I’m so glad I chose the three-stop tour: Coral Garden, Stingray City, and Starfish Point. Without a doubt, I got my money’s worth. The fish at Coral Garden were extraordinary. The water at Stingray City is a color blue I don’t believe I’ve ever seen in my life. It will never leave me - simply stunning. What a gorgeous island you have! Thank you for your generous hospitality and for sharing your island with us. Thank you, Michael and JJ!

We had a great experience with Captain Marvin's tours. The boat was well maintained and the gear all looked brand new. The crew worked very hard to ensure that everything was running smoothly and that everyone was having a great time. Our first stop was for snorkeling, and that was our favorite stop- there were so many varieties of fish. Next was stingray city- which is a lot of fun. We were able to feed the stingrays and get our picture taken kissing one. It felt like someting special- being so up close to the gentle rays. The final stop was starfish point. It was a nice stop, and I am glad we did it. But if we went back, we would book a two stop snorkeling tour- our personal preference
